I just finished installing new found metal ports in the back cabin. I chose the bronze because I had graciously been given one port (thanks Grin). It was a much bigger job than I had anticipated but now that they are installed I am very happy. The plastic ports were falling apart and it killed me to pay $75 for a new lens that I knew would fall apart in a few years. I must say that I was very impressed with the construction of the ports. Very nice and well thought out.

I had the opportunity to install both the old and new style ports. The new style went in much easier!

Hi Peter,

What is the difference between the new style and the old style?

The New Found Metal ports are (in my estimation) some of the best made ports on the market today. This includes both the new and the old style. The old style had the interior ring around the port beveled so it took a counter sunk bolt into the ring. The nut for the bolt to attach to is actually attached to the outside trim ring. Unfortunately the counter sunk hole on the interior ring on the port left little room for movement of the bolt going through the hull. On a thick hull such as the stern of the CSY 44 it makes lining up the nut and bolt very difficult. This is compounded with the thickness of the hull changing radically across an individual port.

The new style ports use pan headed bolts with large holes drilled on the interior ring of the port. It makes lining up the bolts and nuts much easier.

Also, there are several other changes. The new style ports have springs on the hinges that open and hold up the ports when they are open. I would still install the chain holders to keep the ports open in rough conditions but the springs seem to do a pretty good job. Very clever idea and implementation.

The new style ports have a different design for the dogs. Not much of a difference but it looks better.

The new style ports appear to use a little less metal in the port BUT they are still very well made.

And finally the new ports use all metric threads and longer hinge posts.

I installed 4 old style (they gave me a deal) and one new style port.

I am very pleased with the workmanship and the help they provided. I would recommend them to others.
